Send and Receive Files Easily

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is one of the most common ways to send and receive files on the Internet. If you are a graphic designer, a webmaster, or deal with large files on a regular basis, chances are you may be familiar with FTP. While many modern browsers and operating systems have implemented a way for you to access FTP sites through your web browser, they often lack helpful features, are unable to handle large transfers, or do not properly deal with restrictive firewalls.

FTP Made Easy

FileZilla makes sending and receiving large files a snap—it's intuitive, even for those who aren't familiar with FTP. When you open the FileZilla FTP client, you'll notice boxes at the top where you can enter the FTP site, your username, and the password. Click the "Quickconnect" button, and you're instantly logged in! With left-and-right explorer panes, you can simply drag and drop to upload (send) or download (receive) files, without any knowledge of how FTP works.

What We'd Change

FileZilla is the premier open source FTP client, and offers many advanced features that are hidden from the typical user: transfer speed throttling, remote file editing, and resuming transfer of files up over 4GB in size. It is the best-looking FTP client available. The only thing we'd change: in previous versions, there were less panes in the window, and it looked cleaner. The sheer number of panels and dividers is overwhelming at first, even though the program is simple to use. Cleaner is better—keep it simple.
